Testimonials

"I just want to express that I am proud for all what you are doing to bring your knowledge, hope and help to children in my country who need such kind of support. Also, I hope that I will have opportunities to provide some type of contribution for the next year program preparation and realization. All the best to all of you and many thanks!!"
~ Suvad Zahirovic, Federal Cabinet Minister to Bosnian Vice President

"I always chuckle when I think about Applied Behavior Analysis Specialists and Sensory Integration specialists being able to [work] in the same room!!!! However, being part of the seminars in the first week, contributing in that "information sharing" throughout the trip, enabled me to have a better understanding and an even greater respect for behavioral psychologists and the work they do. Again that speaks to the magnitude of this project and the cohesiveness of this group to be able to put the pieces together. I would love to reassemble this team and work more with everyone in whatever capacity I can. I'd love to return to Bosnia, and/or assist w/ another project abroad. I keep the spirit of Bosnia Project 2009 in my heart and use our accomplishments to push me forward!"
~ Jonise Cromartie-Brown, M.S., CCC-SLP, Raleigh, NC

"The last day when the parents cried and finally connected with what we were doing with their children in the classroom made me extremely proud and so overwhelmed with joy. I cannot even put it into words the whole "Bosnian Experience". There was just so much about this trip that made my soul hunger for more. I want to learn more about the Bosnian people and their language. I want to see more of the country and serve the people in it." ~ Christyfaye Jiminez, Early Intervention Specialist, Stockton, CA

"I am truly grateful for receiving the education that I have from the states. Sharing what we know with [university] students who passionately want to learn more of what we know was so rewarding."
~ Abigail Kristian Hagen, M.S., CCC-SLP, Washington D.C.

"In regards to Tuzla 2010, COUNT ME IN!!!!! I am ready for another great Bosnian experience. After doing what we did in Sarajevo I had a small neurological epiphany and realized that we brought about such a good to these people and they did the same to us just by being themselves (which consisted of being generous, inspiring, and more motivating then most I encounter here back home). I want to continue to help as many people as I can within this realm so that we can help all people on the ASD spectrum live their lives to the fullest possibility that they are able to do. Helping these people really inspired me to continue to help all those affected by children on the ASD and help them realize that there is hope for their children."
~ Joey Wagoner, Student at CSU-Fresno, Fresno, CA

"I am in for Tuzla 2010! My low is not being able to do more. We left so many families with so many issues... I really saw how much more there was to do. My high: the inspiration of the Bosnian parents, teachers and other professionals. Their desire to learn and work was completely amazing! I learned within the first week that "pity" was not what was called for. Although these people as a group have been though things we can only imagine - their intelligence, organization, determination and spirit was inspiring and personally edifying. The impact of the 2 week experience was nothing less than life changing. Moreover, it continues to be an inspiration in my work now as we strive to improve what we do here in our program in California. I can't express how grateful I am to have been a part of this project! I hope I can continue to help in the future."
~ Amanda Adams, Ph.D., Professor of Behavioral Psychologist, CSU-Fresno, Fresno, CA

"The greatest surprise of the short trip was how amazingly hospitable the people of Sarajevo were. Everyone was friendly and respectful and even the taxi drivers gave you back your change! I felt safe and welcomed into the country, not to mention Sarajevo was beautiful! These same experiences in Bosnia just felt different somehow. I felt like I grieved and celebrated with the families on a much deeper level. And I was moved by the professionals, who had such an intense desire to grasp all of the concepts and strategies being modeled. It has challenged me to think about my level of passion and knowledge not only as a clinician, but as an advocate for families. I have hope for the children of Bosnia, and would do it all over again for just one child. So, I come away from the short trip, having left a part of my heart in Sarajevo and will spend this next year honing and developing more skills in preparation for the next step...Tuzla 2010!"
~ Leah Huang, M.S., CCC-SLP, Mountain View, CA

"You'd think I'd be able to count the rewards but I can't, they are just too numerous. Working in people's homes gives you a real insight as to what these people live with every day. The joys and untold stresses these families live with 24/7. But these families are different because they are uneducated about Autism. They have a built in hopelessness about what the future holds for them and their children... I felt like our visits instilled hope that their children were able to learn and communicate."
~ Rebecca Sloat, M.S., CCC-SLP, Antioch, CA

"It was a profound experience to be able to stand in front of the Bosnian legislature and say, 'Today at 9 am, eight children with Autism went to school...for the very first time'."
~ Anna Taggart, M.S., CCC-SLP, Walnut Creek, CA
